My oldest will be 12 this week. Dating is right around the corner and it makes my stomach curl. This is a note to the first kid who asked for my oldest's number and to every single punk that crawls around looking to court my baby girl. It's going to be easy pal. Playing Santa is no joke. The pressure is high. You need to convince the little kids that you're the REAL Big Guy, be cool for the older kids, don't scare the crap out of toddlers and be prepared for pent-up housewives who want to give Santa a quick ride. Kidding...maybe. It was fun though, for a variety of reasons.
There are a lot of things you can do with your kids that will make you a cool parent. There are a lot of things you can do to make your kids hate you too. Then, there are little things that will mean a ton to your kids that you won't even think matter. Trust me, they do.
My kids are getting to the age where they bicker and fight all the time. One teases the other. They scream. They piss each other off. In the end, I get pissed off and just want them to shut the hell up.
I know some people don't like the word shut up, but at times, it's what's needs to get the little agitators to shut their pie hole.
Two years ago, I wanted a new truck. The wife and kids wanted a puppy. I ended up with a 2014 Honda Pilot Touring and the family ended up with a White German Shepherd. Truth be told, I wanted the puppy too and I'm glad we have Daisy in our lives. She's a big, loud, protective, yet loving and loyal puppy. She turned two today and it's been quite the ride.
Took the kids to see Elf the Musical this weekend. The wife and I sprung it on them after a dinner in town. We also had access to backstage, which had the kids in awe. While it was a great night, there was a constant topic on my mind, which to be honest, wish it wasn't there.
